Rune Factory 4 Special

Price: $29.99

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, XBox One

Official Synopsis

Fair skies above the clouds come crashing down on a dragon in the form of a resilient hero, whose origins and intentions are unknown due to the unfortunate consequence of having lost all memories on impact. Noticing a unique ability to bring soil to life and connect with monsters, Ventuswill, the Divine Wind Dragon, issues you a proclamation: stay in this castle as royalty, and bring prosperity to the town of Selphia!

Now called an ‘Earthmate’ for your talents, you must take on the responsibilities and wishes of the citizens, and it won’t be easy. Befriending the townspeople, arranging festivities, expanding the town and reviving the fields must now become second nature to you. There is also the matter of protecting the town from a great monster in the forest, only to see it transform into a young girl right before your eyes…

What reasons are there to be placed as royalty under the watchful eye of the Divine Wind? What force could transform a monster into a human being? While adventuring and building new friendships within Selphia, you – the newly-designated ruler – will draw ever closer to the secrets buried in your own lost memories.

My Thoughts

While it’s not exactly the most chill game out there, Rune Factory 4 Special is my favorite game of all time. I own both the Nintendo Switch and Steam versions, as well as the original Rune Factory 4 on 3DS. I’ve talked about my love for the Rune Factory series before and I think that this is the best in the series. Fighting, farming, befriending the villagers, and falling in love are all delightful experiences in this game.

Sun Haven

Basic Information

Website: https://www.pixelsproutstudios.com/

Price: $24.99

Platforms: PC, Mac, coming to Nintendo Switch

Official Synopsis

Greetings, Adventurer!

You’ve just arrived in Sun Haven, a medieval town full of people from all walks of life doing their best to make their beloved town thrive as it once did. As a farmerminerfisherwarriorcraftsman, and even a mage, you’ll find that adventure awaits you here.

Your hard work will let you upgrade your farmrestore shops in Sun Haven, and even bring in new neighbors! As you bring the hustle and bustle back to town, the EXP you earn from each quest will help you level up to advance through a main questline journey.

The main quest itself takes you through two captivating towns outside of Sun Haven. The mythical Elven town of Nel’Vari rests deep in the forest where the Elves live in balance with nature. The rumored monster city of Withergate features a bustling nightlife that never ends – literally – since the city is covered in neverending darkness.

Your experience in these places will grow your skills dramatically, but how you focus that growth is entirely up to you. If you prefer a sword in hand, then slash away by all means. But if a watering can is more your style, then there are nonviolent alternatives to overcome dangerous encounters – even with the final boss! Either way, it’s up to you to wield your abilities and become the hero of your own story!

My Thoughts

As of writing this post, Sun Haven is still in early access, but I can say that it’s already on its way to beating Rune Factory 4 Special as my favorite game of all time. I haven’t put much time into it since my first impressions post because I’m trying to wait until it’s available on Switch, but that wait is very hard. It is quite similar to Rune Factory, but in less of an anime style and more of a pixel one, so I highly recommend this game if you’re already a fan of Rune Factory

Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk DX

Basic Information

Price: $39.99

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch

ESRB: T

Official Synopsis

A Dusk era has fallen upon this world many times, yet people have managed to survive and reclaim a meager livelihood thus far.
Here, in a remote atelier, there was a lone girl making her living by making medicine.
Her name is Ayesha.
several years after her grandfather passed away, her sister went missing and she now lives a solitary life with only her pet cow to call family.

Her sorrowful memories were beginning to fade, little by little, but…
One day, while searching for herbs as usual in the ruins near her atelier, Ayesha saw the figure of her long lost younger sister.
Knowing that her sister was still alive somewhere in the world, Ayesha decided to go on a journey to search for her.

My Thoughts

While Atelier Ayesha might not sound the most chill because of the plot, it is certainly chill to me. I’m quite new to the Atelier series, having only played five of the games, but this is currently my favorite in the series. The story of the love that Ayesha has for her sister, Nio, is extremely heartwarming. The gameplay is quite relaxing if you can handle the light stress of having a time limit. The art is also nice.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

Basic Information

Website: https://www.animal-crossing.com/new-horizons/

Price: $59.99

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

ESRB: E

My Thoughts

While New Horizons is a bit controversial among the Animal Crossing fandom, it’s my personal favorite entry, as well as the one I’ve put the most time in. The Animal Crossing series is undeniably chill. You can do whatever you want in the game and, if you play like me at least, very little stress is involved. It is a perfect game to relax with.

Yoshi’s Crafted World

Basic Information

Website: https://yoshiscraftedworld.nintendo.com/

Price: $59.99

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

ESRB: E

My Thoughts

I am not very fond of a lot of platformers. I am not very good at them and tend to find them stressful as a result. That being said, I have a very soft spot for Yoshi games, as Yoshi’s Story was my introduction to video games. The games are all very cute and I would definitely describe this one as chill. This is also a game that most would consider to be easy, but I do not personally consider that to be a problem. Relax with the adorable yoshis as you fix their problem!
